Teaching Positions

The team at The Journey School of Houston is passionate about the education of the whole child.  We believe in personalizing education to meet the academic, social, and emotional needs of each child. 

Responsibilities

 

  • Teach a small mixed-age group of bright students with social and emotional delays

  • Assist in developing and providing students with alternative course work through curriculum modification, acceleration, etc.

  • Assist in developing individual learning activities based on each student’s gifts, talents, abilities, social and emotional needs, and learning preferences

  • Plan and use appropriate instructional/learning strategies, activities, materials, and equipment that reflects accommodation for the individual needs of students.

  • Ensure academic, social, and emotional objectives are met

  • Participate in team meetings to provide feedback related to class design, pedagogical approach, and classroom tools

  • Manage student behavior in the classroom according to the school's therapeutic approach

  • Compile, maintain, and file all physical and computerized reports, records, and other documents required.

  • Create a classroom environment conducive to learning.

  • Consistently assess student achievement through formal and informal testing.

  • Use technologies in the teaching and learning processes.

  • Maintain a professional relationship with all colleagues, students, parents, and community members.

 

Basic Qualifications

  • Must hold a bachelor's degree in Education

  • Must have strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.

  • Must have some understanding of the core competencies of social and emotional learning.

  • Must be receptive to understanding child development and therapeutic approaches used to support learning in the classroom.

  • Must be able to respond to emergency situations quickly and safely.

  • Must be receptive to supervision and professional development.

  • Must have a general knowledge of curriculum and instruction.

  • Must be knowledgeable of strategies and materials for the education of gifted and talented students.
